چکیده

Objective: To study the SOX2 and Snail expression in esophageal cancer and their relationships with tumor biological behavior. Methods: Immunohistochemical method was used to study the SOX2 and Snail1 expression in 60 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients with lymph node metastasis. Statistical analysis was done based on the immunohistochemistry data and the disease profile. Results: SOX2 expression level is positively correlated with Snail expression level in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients with lymph node metastasis (r = 0.583, P < 0.05). However, SOX2 or Snail expression levels are not correlated with the patients’ age, tumor differentiation grade, TNM stage, or clinical pathology data (P > 0.05), in the same patient cohort. SOX2 expression level alone is not correlated with the patients’ age, tumor differentiation grade or TNM stage (P > 0.05); However, SOX2 and Snail are both positively expressed in one case of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma with lymph node metastasis. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates SOX2 and Snail levels are upregulated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissue with lymph node metastasis, and their expression levels are positively correlated. Our data suggests SOX2 and Snail are playing a role in carcinogenesis of esophageal squamous cell carcinomas.

Analyzing the Expression Level and Associated Clinical Characteristics of miRNA-138 in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Iranian Patients

Background: Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) is the seventh most common and lethal malignancy worldwide with a high incidence in Iran. Esophageal cancer has a poor prognosis and low 5-years survival rate. Despite several studies on esophageal cancer, its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, it is significant to analyze the molecular factors involved in disease for introduci...

Evaluation of Cyclin D1 Expression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma and its Effect on Response Rate to Neo- adjuvant Chemoradiotherapy

Background and Objective: Esophageal cancer especially squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the most common gastro intestinal malignancies in north part of Iran (Khorasan). The standard treatment for esophageal cancer is surgical resection, but its outcome remains poor. Then, the oncologists try to treat this cancer with sandwich protocols especially neo-adjuvant chemo-radiotherapy. Sever...

Linc-ROR and its spliced variants 2 and 4 are significantly up-regulated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Objective(s): Similar characteristics of molecular pathways between cellular reprogramming events and tumorigenesis have been accentuated in recent years. Reprogramming-related transcription factors, also known as Yamanaka factors (OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC), are also well-known oncogenes promoting cancer initiation, progression, and cellular transformation into cancer stem cells. Long non-co...

The Effect Of P53 Protein Over-Expression And Its Clinical Features On The Response To Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy Of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Background and Objective: P53 is a suppressive gene that plays a key role in DNA repair and apoptosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of P53 protein over-expression and some clinicopathological factors on the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Patients and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 44 patients with loc...

Detection of Human Papillomavirus in Osophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma samples in Mazandaran Province, Iran

We examined 170 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients. All subjects live in Mazandaran province, a region with high incidence rate of esophageal cancer and have become known as the “Asian Esophageal Cancer Belt”. Samples were tested for HPV-DNA by MY09/11 and Gp5+/6+ general primers using nested PCR. Of the 170 ESCC samples, 86 (50.6%) were ma...
